Malaysia’s AI Future Begins
NVIDIA AND YTL POWER LEAD RM10 BILLION PUSH FOR SUSTAINABLE, HOMEGROWN INNOVATION

Malaysia is making headlines once again as it sets its sights on becoming the leading artificial intelligence hub in Southeast Asia. In a powerful collaboration, global technology leader NVIDIA has partnered with YTL Power International Berhad to develop an artificial intelligence infrastructure project valued at RM10 billion.
This visionary alliance aims to establish next generation data centres powered by renewable energy, alongside the development of Malaysia’s own sovereign large language model. The goal is to enable the country to not only adopt artificial intelligence but to shape it on its own terms.

The announcement, made in July 2025, follows a series of high level engagements led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. His meeting with NVIDIA Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang and YTL Power Managing Director Datuk Yeoh Seok Hong in San Jose last year laid the foundation for this monumental initiative. The collaboration is more than just a technological advancement. It represents Malaysia’s commitment to sustainability, innovation and economic transformation.
By combining green energy with advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, Malaysia is embracing a future where digital growth and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
At the core of this project is the creation of an artificial intelligence ecosystem that empowers local talent and supports regional innovation. YTL Power will play a leading role in bringing together technology providers, industry players and academic institutions to cultivate a strong and self-sustaining artificial intelligence community.

This effort aligns with Malaysia’s broader vision to nurture skilled professionals in data science, machine learning and digital ethics while also attracting global investment and research opportunities.
The development of a sovereign large language model will also enable Malaysia to preserve and promote its linguistic and cultural heritage within digital platforms. It is a step towards ensuring that artificial intelligence systems understand and reflect local values, languages and nuances. This has wide-ranging implications for governance, education, public services and business innovation.

As Malaysia moves forward with confidence, this NVIDIA-YTL Power partnership sends a strong message to the world. The country is not just keeping pace with technological change, it is actively shaping the future. With a clear roadmap, committed leadership and strategic alliances in place, Malaysia is poised to become a centre of excellence in artificial intelligence, bringing long-term benefits to its economy, society and global standing.
