A towering figure in Malaysian modern art, Abdul Latiff Mohidin is celebrated for his distinctive visual language that bridges abstraction, nature and poetic expression.
Painted in 2009, Green Voyage belongs to Latiff Mohidin’s celebrated Voyage series, a body of work that reflects the artist’s lifelong fascination with journeys, both physical and imagined. The series revisits the recurring boat like form that first appeared in his early visual explorations, transforming it into a metaphor for passage, memory and the continuous search for meaning. The dominant green palette evokes the vitality of nature, growth and the organic rhythms of the landscape, while the layered forms and expressive brushwork invite contemplation of an imagined voyage beyond geographical boundaries. As with much of Latiff’s later works, the painting is less a depiction of a destination than an exploration of inner landscapes and poetic emotions.

The Voyage series represents a mature chapter in Latiff Mohidin’s artistic evolution, where earlier influences from Southeast Asian landscapes, symbolism and abstraction are distilled into compositions of remarkable harmony and depth. Works from this period continue to be highly sought after for their meditative quality and their place within the legacy of one of Malaysia’s most influential modern masters.
