Born in 1952 in Kelantan. Mokhtar Ishak’s paintings are predominantly of rural landscapes, seascapes and portraits, mostly the East Coast of Malaysia where he was born. His strokes and vibrant hues bring out the best of the East Coast. Since the 1970s, Mokhtar has exhibited his artworks in numerous galleries and institutions, namely the National Art Gallery Malaysia, National Museum Kelantan, PETRONAS Gallery, Bank Negara Malaysia and others. His paintings can be found in numerous public and private collections. The only formal education he has received was an art course that he attended in 1973, organized by The Ministry of Youth and Sports.
