In Family (2002), Nguyen Thanh Chuong arranges a group of figures through simplified shapes, compact gestures and a warm palette of red, orange, green and ochre. The overlapping bodies and closely gathered faces create a strong sense of togetherness, while the flattened composition gives the scene a playful, almost architectural structure. Despite the economy of detail, the work conveys warmth and familiarity through posture, proximity and colour.
Dinh Quan’s Untitled (2000) presents a markedly different mood. A solitary face emerges against a deep reddish ground, rendered with a deliberately spare and ghost-like quality. The enlarged eyes, simplified features and textured surface give the work an enigmatic presence, balancing vulnerability with a sense of quiet unease. Viewed alongside Nguyen Thanh Chuong’s lively family scene, the work introduces a striking contrast between collective warmth and solitary introspection.
