Abstract painter Suzlee Ibrahim gains inspiration from travelling the globe. His gestural paintings focus on the relationships between dynamic brushstrokes and colour, conveying the impressions of his thoughts. In his Movement series, a chaos of colours comes to life on Suzlee’s canvas. The multiple layers of paint are applied followed by textural treatment to unravel a precise state of mind expressed through conscious gestures.
Born in 1967 in the modest state of Terengganu, Suzlee Ibrahim has shown a remarkable achievement in his 30 years’ career as a painter. Suzlee Ibrahim graduated from the Mara Institute of Technology in 1987 but started lecturing in his alma-mater from 1993 to 2009 (part-time 1993-1996), after a stint in advertising. He has retired from the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (Aswara). He has had 32 solo exhibitions and has exhibited in more than 20 countries all over the world.
