M.Sivanesan’s works are a reflection of his personal moods, rather than an attempt at making a profound statement. Fascinated with the human subject, Sivanesan works mainly with figurative compositions. He has exhibited widely in India and internationally, including Bangkok (1976), Los Angeles (1977), Ottawa (1978), New York and Washington DC (1979).
Indian Dancer is an elegant portrait that celebrates the beauty and poise of a traditional Indian performer. Framed in an intimate close up, the sitter’s expressive gaze is complemented by ornate jewellery and a delicately draped veil, while loose, confident brushstrokes lend the composition a sense of vitality and movement. Rendered in soft earth tones accented with vibrant highlights, the painting reflects Sivanesan’s ability to balance realism with expressive freedom.
