Anthonie Chong is a noted Malaysian contemporary artist recognised for his evolving practice from emotionally charged figurative works to stylised, concept driven imagery. Trained in Graphic Design at the Perak Institute of Art, he began his career in education and design before committing fully to art. He rose to prominence in the 1990s with introspective figurative paintings, later developing his distinctive “e-monk” series that blends surrealism, technology, and spiritual themes. A recipient of the Philip Morris ASEAN Art Awards (Malaysia, 1998), Chong has exhibited widely and his works are held in important regional collections, including the Singapore Art Museum.
