A vibrant and contemporary interpretation of the garden, Fresh Garden reflects Luqman Zainal’s fascination with nature while introducing a distinctly Western, almost David Hockney-esque sensibility in its stylised forms, bold colour relationships and flattened pictorial space. The composition balances decorative foliage with playful geometry, transforming the familiar garden into an imaginative and dreamlike setting. Luqman Zainal is an emerging Malaysian artist who holds a Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from UiTM. Drawing from his interest in photography, he combines observed reality with imagination, deliberately manipulating perspective, colour, line and form to create poetic and romantic landscapes.
Fresh Garden belongs to a notable group of 2023 garden paintings by the artist, reflecting a period of increasing confidence and refinement in hisdistinctive visual language.
