Monumental in scale and intensely atmospheric, Red Landscape is a powerful example of Abdul Latiff Mohidin’s celebrated late Seascape paintings. Bathed in a commanding red palette, the work transforms landscape into an almost dreamlike vision, with land, sea and horizon dissolving into bold organic forms and expressive textures. The result is both mysterious and meditative, nature distilled through the artist’s distinctly poetic modernist vocabulary.
Red Landscape belongs to the important body of paintings presented in Seascape: Recent Paintings from 2010–2014, held at Opera Gallery, Singapore and subsequently at The Edge Galerie, Kuala Lumpur in 2014.
Latiff Mohidin is one of Malaysia’s most important modernist artists, celebrated internationally as a painter, sculptor and poet. His landmark Pago-Pago series and later bodies of work, including Mindscape, Gelombang and Seascape, have shaped the course of Southeast Asian modern art.
