A celebrated master of Malaysian batik art, Ismail Mat Hussin is renowned for his vivid depictions of East Coast village life and cultural traditions. Throughout his career, he transformed everyday scenes into enduring visual records of Malaysia’s heritage, capturing the spirit and resilience of local communities.
This 2010 batik painting portrays fishermen gathered around their nets along the shoreline, engaged in the communal labour that has sustained coastal communities for generations.
