In Rocks in Water I & II, Bhanu Achan explores the meeting of solid form and fluid movement through a striking palette of blues and purples, punctuated by expressive streaks of black. Rather than depicting rocks and water literally, the artist distils their essence into layered colour, texture and spontaneous gestural marks. The cool hues create a sense of depth and tranquillity, while the darker strokes introduce rhythm, movement and a subtle sense of tension.
Bhanu Achan is known for his abstract interpretations of nature and landscape. Initially sent to India to study medicine, his exposure to Hinduphilosophy, yoga and spirituality profoundly influenced his artistic direction. His works seek to move beyond literal representation, translating nature into contemplative compositions that reflect both his inner world and his enduring fascination with the natural environment. His works are held in the permanent collection of the National Art Gallery.
