In Kopi dan Buah, Rafiee Ghani transforms familiar domestic objects into a vibrant celebration of everyday life. A cup of coffee and a freshly sliced papaya share the table with an abundant arrangement of flowers and foliage, creating an intimate still life filled with warmth and sensory richness. The composition reflects Rafiee’s distinctive approach to still life, where ordinary objects become symbols of comfort and quiet pleasure. His 1990s works frequently explored interiors, plants, flowers, food and fruits, expressed through dynamic colour and expressive brushwork.
Born in Kulim, Kedah, in 1962, Rafiee studied in Holland, at Institut Teknologi MARA and later Manchester Polytechnic, developing a practice deeply influenced by his travels and his admiration for artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Henri Matisse.
