Bhanu Achan’s artistic journey is one shaped by both introspection and an enduring reverence for nature. Originally sent to India to study medicine, his exposure to Hindu philosophy, yoga, and spirituality profoundly altered his life’s course, leading him to pursue art instead. Over a career spanning more than four decades, Achan has established himself as one of Malaysia’s distinguished abstract painters, with works held in the National Art Gallery’s permanent collection and numerous private collections. His paintings consistently seek meaning beyond literal representation, transforming the natural world into emotive, contemplative abstractions.
In both the Valley of Gold I and II compositions, Achan orchestrates a striking dialogue between luminous golden yellow, deep cobalt blue, and expressive black gestural marks.
