A painter, sculptor and poet, Latiff’s artistic language has evolved through iconic series such as Pago-Pago, Mindscape, Gelombang and Voyage, reflecting his lifelong exploration of nature, movement and the imagination.
Rendered in mixed media on paper, Voyage 27 belongs to Latiff Mohidin’s later Voyage series, a body of works inspired not by physical travel alone, but by an inward journey of memory and contemplation. The recurring boat like forms within the series serve as metaphors for exploration and passage, tracing their origins to earlier motifs from his Pago-Pago period while taking on a more introspective character. Illustrated and published in Latiff Mohidin’s Voyage: Sketches, Work on Paper, a coffee table publication by LM Studio in 2014, this work represents an important chapter in the artist’s continued exploration of movement, memory and the endless voyage of the mind.
A rare opportunity to acquire a work from one of Malaysia’s most influential modern masters, Voyage 27 captures Latiff Mohidin’s enduring ability to transform a simple sheet of paper into a profound visual meditation on time, space and imagination.
