Ahmad Shukri Mohamed is widely regarded as one of Malaysia’s leading contemporary artists, celebrated for his experimental approach and innovative visual language. Having exhibited extensively both locally and internationally, Shukri resists being confined by any single style, medium, or subject. Instead, his works are distinguished by richly layered compositions that combine oil paint, canvas, paper, aluminium foil, and found materials into dynamic, textured surfaces. As the artist himself has often remarked, the only constant in his practice is change.
A former lecturer at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shukri eventually left academia to pursue his artistic career full time while continuing to contribute as a part time educator. He is also a co-founder of the influential Matahati collective, a group that has played a significant role in shaping contemporary Malaysian art.
