Sunset Sungai Jering reflects Ahmad Nazri Abdullah’s lifelong fascination with the changing moods of the Malaysian landscape. Painted in oil on canvas, the work captures the transient beauty of dusk, where warm evening light transforms river, sky and surrounding vegetation into a harmonious composition. Working largely en plein air, Nazri approached each landscape by establishing its overall tonal structure before refining the scene with increasingly detailed brushwork. His enduring interest in cloud formations and sunset light, developed through years of observing and photographing the natural environment imbues the painting with both realism and quiet lyricism. More than a topographical record, Sunset Sungai Jering expresses the artist’s deep attachment to the Malaysian countryside, revealing nature as a place of reflection, serenity and enduring beauty. This painting exemplifies the same sensitivity to atmosphere and light that characterises his best known landscape works.
