Izham’s work often explores themes of memory, time, and the complexities of human experience. His paintings, characterized by layers of colour and texture, invite viewers to delve into a world of introspection and contemplation. Pastel hues sweeps across the canvas for Mohd Khairul Izham’s ‘Di Pinggir Kota, 2019’ piece. A closer observance reveals the artist’s favourite themes – trees, butterflies and dragonflies to name a few. Interlaid between these motifs are drawings of both mundane and interesting items such as a king’s crown, mechanical rat, a top, China vase, tea pot, a throne and many more. Khairul Izham is known to portray an enigmatic and elusive mood in his subjects. His brushes of colour create rough silhouettes in an expressionistic manner with details, contours and crevices accurately captured.
