Dinh Quan graduated from Hanoi University of Fine Art in 1990 and has progressively held many exhibitions in Vietnam and foreign countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Europe and the United States. Dinh Quan has adapted his lacquer art to combine other artistic disciplines such as sculpture and is constantly experimenting with innovative and more complex techniques. He has become something of a national treasure as an artist and his work is highly regarded in his home country. Two Ladies with Lotus exemplifies Dinh Quan’s mastery of Vietnamese lacquer painting, where tradition and contemporary expression are seamlessly intertwined. Renowned for his refined, almost ethereal depictions of the female form, the artist presents two elegantly poised women clad in traditional attire, their serene expressions evoking a quiet introspection. The lotus, an enduring symbol of purity, grace, and spiritual awakening in Vietnamese and Buddhist culture serves as the central motif, reinforcing the contemplative mood of the composition. Set against a rich interplay of deep reds, blacks, and luminous gold, the figures appear suspended in a timeless, dreamlike space.
