Chuah Thean Teng (1914–2008) revolutionized batik, a traditional fabric-dyeing technique, turning it into a fine art form. Instead of just making batik for clothing, he used wax-resist and dyes to create detailed, expressive paintings. Boy with Ox is one of his well-known works. Like much of his art, it features rural Malaysian life — simple yet full of emotion and movement.
