DINING OCTOBER 2021

The Hungry Lab

BY HIRANMAYII AWLI MOHANAN

Fusion food is never scarce in the melting pot that is the food scene in Malaysia. As restrictions ease, our palates are on the hunt for new flavours and The Hungry Lab just might be the place for you. Tucked away in Sri Petaling, The Hungry Lab is donned with a modern contemporary façade with the entrance being a stone cut-out. Serving up the best of western café classics with a twist of their own, the creative minds behind The Hungry Lab reflects more Vietnamese influence in their dishes.

One of the fan favourites since the inception of The Hungry Lab is its all day Big Breakfast which features a big platter of eggs, smoked bacon, mushroom, pork sausage, grilled tomatoes, mixed green salad with honey truffle dressing and the toast of the day. A hearty breakfast meal which can be enjoyed any time of the day. If you choose to start the day with a light meal, they also serve up a surprisingly moreish Banh Mi, a Vietnamese sandwich stuffed with roast pork, pate, flows, tomatoes and garnished with cilantro to lighten the meal and give it a freshness. Easily consumed on the go, the Banh Mi goes down easy, especially with their Iced Tik Tik coffee.

An ode to the classics, the T.H.L Caesar Salad at The Hungry Lab is prepared to reflect a flavour profile much closer to home served with walnuts, bacon, garlic-infused parmesan, croutons, pickled red onions, pork lard, crumbled salted egg yolk, and their signature sauce. Looking at their mains, attention can’t help but be brought to the Roasted Lemongrass Spring Chicken. Flaunting a strong essence of the Vietnamese influence, the dish draws you in with its aromatic lemongrass notes.
