Timothy

A nostalgic concept at its core, Timothy is bravely bringing the culture of kopitiam into the contemporary café scene. Nestled comfortably in a repurposed shophouse, the building has retained most of its original charm and matches the cafe’s rustic appeal. With a deep root in Malaysian cuisine, the food served at Timothy is made different by its Western and Southeast-Asian influences across the menu. Starting with the Nasi Ulam Rainbow Ayam Percik, the dish lures one with its colourful appeal each colour or rather element of the dish contributing a specific flavour profile and texture to create a delicious amalgamation every Malaysian is familiar with. Another signature dish we thoroughly enjoyed from their menu was the Nasi Ayam Geprek, a plateful of blue-pea rice served with a crispy fried chicken and smothered in sambal balado, a chilli relish which punches you twice, the first with the aromatic flavours and the second with the intense spiciness.

LOKL Coffee Co.

Inspired by American diners, French cuisine, Colonial Hainanese dishes and age-old family recipes, LOKL Coffee Co serves up comfort food with an Asian twist. Bestsellers here include Thai Omelet Breakfast, Smashed Burger and Truffle Croque Madame for breakfast. They also dole out a full breakfast menu of eggs, sourdough and pancakes for champions. Coffee is stellar here, given that LOKL Coffee Co brews both local and Western coffee. The lunch menu features a beautiful and delectable selection of pasta and mains such as the Balinese Chicken Bowl an assemblage of coconut and turmeric-flavoured grilled chicken on a bed of herb rice, served with chilli sambal and Ulam Raja.

Leaf & Co. Cafe

Nestled in Jalan Sultan, Leaf & Co. Cafe screams nostalgia and the yesteryear. Housed in a heritage building, this cafe is a juxtaposition of modern and old. The fixtures and furniture give off kopitiam vibes and the semi-open space area in the café allows natural sunlight to shine through, elevating the ambience. There’s much to savour here, from the Soft Shell Crab Pasta with velvety butter cream sauce topped with parmesan cheese, Ocean Catch Croissant boasting fish fillet with Japanese roasted sesame sauce, bonito flakes and seaweed, served with side salad and fries to Lemongrass Chicken Rice with marinated lemongrass chicken thigh, Thai garlic fish sauce and rempah rice.
