An organisation set up in 1997 as a support office for World Vision International, World Vision Malaysia (WVM) is a global Christian humanitarian relief and development affiliation working for the well-being of all, especially children. Its vision is for every child to live his or her life to the fullest and for every heart to have the will to make it in life. World Vision helps the poor to help themselves by working with them to build a sustainable future for their children, families and communities through emergency relief, education, healthcare, economic development and promotion of justice.
There are a few communities supported by WVM through their ‘Area Development Programmes’. These communities are provided with the basic necessities as well as first aid. Funds for these communities are obtained through several projects and the key ones are the Child Sponsorship Programme, 30- Hour Famine and the Gifts of Hope Catalogue. Among the communities supported are the Bati in Cambodia, YongSheng, Hotan, Pingquan and Liping (China), Kangayam, Arpana and Moradabad (India), Singkawang and Ternate (Indonesia), Marjeyoun (Lebanon), Nalaikh (Mongolia), Mya Nandar, Mawlamyine and Kawthaung (Myanmar), Thusalushaka
(South Africa), Kuan Niang, Prai Burng, Kapur, and Mae Sariang (Thailand) and Ba Thuoc and Tua Chua (Vietnam).
The Child Sponsorship Programme is where you can sponsor a child who is in need of basic living necessities and education. Contributions from child sponsors are pooled together and invested in long-term development programmes that will give the sponsored child, his/her family and the community a brighter future.
To sign up, you have to fill up a form, and a confirmation email with payment instructions will be sent to you. Upon
receiving your first contribution, WVM will send you the child’s picture and details. Within three months, your sponsored child will write to you to introduce himself/herself. If your sponsored child is too young, a family member or a World Vision staff will write on his/her behalf.
The Gifts of Hope Catalogue is a unique, alternative gift catalogue that allows you to combine the thoughtfulness of gifting with meaningful acts of charity. It features practical gifts such as livestock for families, school uniforms for children, and homes for street families. The gifts are aimed at helping its recipients break free from the vicious cycle of poverty.
All you have to do is pick a gift for a loved one or yourself. A gift card will be sent to you for your loved one, to inform the person about the special gift you have bought in his/her honour. The gift will be delivered to children and families in need by WVM.
A foundation that adopts unique and beautiful ways of helping those in need, World Vision Malaysia is indeed the anchor of hope that docks in the harbour of poverty.

It amazes me that this type of organization can do so much with so little money. The work they do is so important. Keep up the good work,
