In line with the government’s “People First, Performance Now” concept of 1Malaysia, the Boulevard Hotel brings a myriad of ‘1Malaysia’ dishes for all at its Wild Rice Restaurant in the form of the ‘Citarasa Satu Malaysia’ buffet dinner. It has four sets of menus to compliment the four weeks in a month. The menus are special as they consist of an array of dishes from all the states in Malaysia. Some of them have the fusion look with a hint of western elements added to it.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted warmly by the friendly staff. The buffet prepared for us consisted of 11 dishes from the menus in the buffet. There was the ‘Oxtail Assam Pedas’ which is one of the signature dishes. The soup was rich with spices and flavour. The meat was soft and complimented the soup very well.
The other 10 dishes served were the Salmon Chowder, ‘Mutton Varuval’ (an Indian dish), Stir Fried Squids served with Kam Heung Sauce, Prawns in Superior Sauce, Oriental Chicken Chop, Pan-Fish Fillet with Olive & Fetta Cheese Salsa, Middle Eastern Duck with Orange Glaze, Stir–Fried Mussels with Black Pepper, Rendang Tok Daging (a kampung dish from Perak) and Braised Tau Kan with Shrimps and Assorted Mushrooms. Besides the oxtail soup, the Oriental Chicken Chop was a delight.
The chicken was cooked to perfection and the sauce is laden with spices. It tasted good with spaghetti or rice but it tasted great when eaten on its own. The Rendang Tok Daging is a spicy dish, but the beef was extremely tender and juicy.
Other dishes to look out for are the Penang ‘Char Koay Teow’, fried noodles and curry mee which were spicy and tasty. They were laden with chicken bits, huge prawns and egg. They were neither too wet nor dry, making them the perfect texture to be eaten. It was a pleasure having both these dishes. The curry mee was full of flavour with all the spices. The spiciness however was at the right level and can be enjoyed by all. It has got prawns, squids and chunks of chicken. All these ingredients together with the noodle and the perfect curry is a feast for your palate. The selection of desserts after that was pleasant. There was an assortment of cakes, ‘kek kukus lapis Sarawak’ and my absolute favourite, assortment of fruits, mixed with jelly and yoghurt. This dish came in a glass and a bite of all these delights mixed together was enough to make us ecstatic.
Overall ,the experience of the Citarasa Satu Malaysia buffet was wonderful. A perfect place to head to for dinner with your colleagues and friends. Experience an array of dishes with different tastes and flavours, courtesy of the states in Malaysia. It is one experience that you will never want to miss.
