DEBUT PERFORMANCE & SINGING
She was a relatively unknown singer, but her powerful vocals and outstanding performance at Ne-Yo’s concert wow-ed the crowd and left them wondering about the songstress.

But Najwa Mahiaddin is no stranger to the stage, having fallen in love with singing since she was a child.

“I was seven and I sang ‘Kaulah Seg- alanya’ by Ruth Sahanaya at a school function. I’ve always had a penchant for music and I love singing since I was a kid. I used to sing at family and school functions since young. When I finished secondary school, I realised that music was my passion and I wanted to pursue it further. But my parents wanted me to get a professional degree, so I ended up pursuing a degree in engineering in Melbourne, Australia.

“My parents were not at all keen in me pursuing music as a career. It’s quite ironic actually because they were the ones who introduced me to music. I grew up listening to their jazz records. There were records from Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday and many more. They also took me to musicals like Mary Poppins and Phantom Of The Opera which is my all-time favourite,” she said.
