KL Lifestyle seeks restaurant recommendations from ravishing beauty, model and actress Daphne Iking.
To Daphne Iking, there is no other place like Bulldog Pub & Restaurant to hangout in.
“The restaurant serves good old English pub fare and grub and is your typical neighbourhood bar-restaurant. I used to frequent it at least three times a week and just slum it there with intimate friends. We had card sessions, or grabbed a beer or two. The place simply makes be feel as if I am at home,” she shares.
A thoroughly English pub, Bulldog is set in the bustling suburb of Taman Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur. You can find a long wooden bar, and cosy tables and chairs with sports and drinking collectables adorning the walls.
“I get to watch my footie or F1 without it being too crowded or rowdy.
I can also have meetings there as it is not too noisy. Even my two-year-old daughter Isobel can chill out there because it is not smoky nor too loud.
And it’s near where we stay,” Daphne tells about the rea- sons she loves the place.
“There is nothing fancy, noth- ing grand. It just makes me feel comfortable being there,” she adds.
It was her good friend, Alvin Wong who first took her to the place after an event to join some friends for dinner. And it was him who introduced her to the BLT Sandwich – her favourite food among other delectable offerings. BLT simply stands for Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato, served in English bread with chips (RM20).
They can make my favourite cocktail – Illusions! Yum! – she remarks
Daphne recommends Bang- ers and Mash, and Pork Chop. Bangers and Mash (RM28), offers diners a choice of pork or lamb sausages fried with onions and served with a mound of creamy mashed potato and gravy. Pork Chop (RM32), on the other hand, is served on a bed of mashed potato with garlic parsley butter, fresh vegetables and apple sauce.
Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding (RM40) is also on her list of ‘must-try’. It consists of succulent roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, served with roast potatoes, fresh vegetables and gravy. Next in the list is the Shepherd’s Pie (RM29), which consists of minced lamb and onion topped with creamy mashed potato Illusions and baked until golden. Another favourite – Toad in the Hole (RM32), quirky as it sounds, is simply a large Yorkshire pudding baked together with pork sausages until crispy.
It is also served with fresh vegetables, creamy mashed potato and gravy. Daphne further recommends the Fish & Chips (RM36) – lemon sole fillet in beer batter served with chips and tartar sauce, and Sirloin Steak in Black Pepper Sauce (RM40). “They can even make my favourite cocktail – Illusions! Yum!” she remarks.
For those who have yet to soak in the warm and relaxed at- mosphere of Bulldog, why not head down to this popular watering hole this weekend? Who knows, you may find yourself sitting next to Daphne!
