If you think shopping malls are just for shopping, think again because they have become favourite spots for New Year countdowns as well, and the Tropicana City Mall is no exception to this. The mall boasted a marvellous gala themed “Neighbourhood Fun Countdown to 2010” to usher in the New Year.
Fun was given a whole new meaning with carnival shows, live band performances, fireworks display, and special discounts at food, beverage, selected beauty and fashion retail outlets, and more.

Dec 31, 2009 became the ultimate frolicking day at the mall with the entire family in tow! Apart from a musical carnival theme and other exciting performances for “Neighbourhood Fun Countdown to 2010”, Tropicana City Mall also offered a wide range of international cuisine for every member of the family to sink their discerning chops into! The culinary delights ranged from local, Western, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese to Korean and more. Feeling tired from all the shopping, many chilled out at the cafés and entertainment outlets for coffee, desserts and other selection of drinks.

“The “Neighbourhood Fun Countdown to 2010” party started from 8pm onwards at the entrance of Tropicana City Mall. It took off with music spun by the deejay followed by the emcee greeting the crowd. There was a walkabout magician, walkabout clowns and a face painter to entertain all with their antics. The party continued with performances by the deejay, a fire stunt show and an Afro loud percussion which were broken into a few sets. There were also games with wonderful prizes and a spectacular performance by Reflex Band.

When it hit midnight, a magnificent fireworks display which took everyone’s breath away took place. Alongside this was the song ‘Auld Lang Syne’ which was performed by the Reflex Band. The band then went on with its performance. The end of the fireworks display indicated the start of the street party led by the deejay which went on until 1am . It had everyone cheering, dancing and partying all night long.
The whole gala saw everyone coming together to celebrate and welcome the arrival of 2010 in unity. It was an event filled with warmth, joy, fun and laughter. Yet another wonderful and prosperous year is here!
