It all started with a dream 19 years ago. Mike Loh was a hairstylist working for another when one fine day he decided that he wanted to go on his on. He spoke to his then partner, resigned and moved on. That brought to the birth of the first outlet of Snips Salon at Sungei Wang Plaza, Kuala Lumpur. From a hair salon, it evolved into Snips Sig- nature where besides hair cutting services, it also has its nail bar and make-up services by professionals.

“The name Snips was picked as everyone could relate to it. When you hear the word, you know that it has to involve hair cutting,” said Mike
Snips provides a wide range of quality and professional service to assure prospec- tive customers that all of their needs will be met. Besides that, it also aims at improving its competitive position in the hair-care product industry.

Snips’s mission has always been to offer imaginative and unique hair services and products that cater to all. It strives to create unique and memorable hair styling by provid- ing customers with unlimited creativity and professionalism with its hair care products. Snips is also expanding its client base by giving franchisees the opportunity to invest in this industry. Today, Snips has 24 outlets in Malaysia and worldwide. This includes coun- tries such as Australia, China, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia.

Besides Snips Salon and Signature Snips, Mike has extended his business towards moulding hairstyling experts as well. This is done through Snips College of Creative Arts. It is the first academy for hairdressing and is recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education. Established in 1998 it is located at Cheras Leisure Mall. It started off humbly with just one student and today it has branches in Klang and Sabah with a total of 400 to 500 students.

The courses available here are Diploma in hairdressing, business management for hairdressing and Certificate in Make-up and Nail. This is the first hairdressing college in the Asia-Pacific region and it has foreign stu- dents from Japan, Vietnam, Korea, England, Taiwan and the Middle East. The college has qualified local lecturers as well as internation- al ones from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Beijing.

From a modest start with one salon, Snips has evolved into a well-known household name not just locally but at the international pedestal as well. With several hair salons, nail and make-up parlours and a creative arts col- lege, it has become a success story and will continue to seek new endeavours.
